It was 1982, and one of the main hotels in the history of Campos do Jordão had been closed for over two decades. This scenario started to change when Senac São Paulo and the Government of the State of São Paulo signed a partnership that aimed at opening a teaching hotel, starting a new chapter in the history of Grande Hotel.
The idea was to use the facilities of what had been, in the 1940s, a luxurious casino hotel, to promote the learning of young professionals and enable the rebirth of one of the major tourist attractions in the city.
The rebound of Grande Hotel Campos do Jordão started in 1987, when a deep renovation begun, promoting structural changes and recovering the building. However, the guidance was to maintain the features of the original architecture.
The architectonic plan was strictly followed and, in 1998, the Grande Hotel Campos do Jordão was reopened, subtlety reproducing a little of the ambience from past decades, when it was called Grande Hotel Cassino.
From the inauguration in 1944 to its closure, it was frequented by many artists, politicians and entrepreneurs in Brazil. Grand parties were held in its facilities, and the bustle in its bars and restaurants was frequently news in social columns.
The history of Grande Hotel is not restricted to the memory or to old photography albums. It is renewed each day, with guests and visitors who come and continuously help to write more lines of this long history.
